Parts of Main Street became impassable for cars
OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Another day, another round of heavy rain and another round of flash flooding.
A strong line of thunderstorms moved through around 2:30 Friday afternoon causing street flooding in low-lying areas of Ottumwa.
This video from Ottumwa’s west end shows massive amounts of water collecting all along west Main Street.
In fact, Main Street near O’Hara’s Hardware was impassable for a time.
The flash flooding caused localized problems, but city officials are not concerned that today’s rain will affect river levels significantly. Public information officer Tom Rodgers told KTVO that the river has gone down enough since Thursday’s crest that it should be able to handle today’s influx of water.
Rodgers does expect river levels to rise however, and said the city remains prepared to act quickly if the situation worsens.
