DES MOINES, IOWA -- State Senator Keith Kreiman of Bloomfield announced Friday that he is a running for re-election to the Iowa State Senate in District 47. Senate District 47 covers all of Appanoose, Davis and Wayne counties and part of Wapello County, including the cities of Ottumwa, Blakesburg & Chillicothe.

“Serving in the Iowa Senate has been an honor,” said Kreiman, a Democrat.  “It is humbling to be asked by the people of our area to go to Des Moines to represent the interests of all of us in Southern Iowa.”

Kreiman is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Law, Seattle University, and Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls.  He has been active in community activities, including serving in the past as a member of the Davis County School Board, as a board member of the Davis County Fine Arts Council, Lions Clubs, and Optimist Club, and a Sunday School teacher at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Kreiman, a local attorney, has served as co-chair of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee for the past six years.  In that capacity, Kreiman helped draft anti-methamphetamine legislation that has reduced meth labs in Southern Iowa and the rest of the state by more than 80 percent.  Kreiman also helped draft landmark, bi-partisan legislation during the 2009 session that made Iowa’s anti-sex offender laws smarter, tougher and safer.  Senator Kreiman has won national and statewide awards for his efforts to protect public safety.

“I am running for re-election because I want to continue to fight to protect vulnerable Iowans, including children; for teachers who are spending more and more time filling out paperwork and less and less time in classrooms, and for hard-working Southern Iowans who are losing ground because of high taxes, high utility rates, and higher and higher medical expenses.”

Senator Kreiman helped to draft and led the effort to pass Iowa’s Eminent Domain Law which protects the public from having their property taken from them by the government.  Kreiman also led the successful fight to override a Governor’s veto of the legislation.  Kreiman serves on the Senate Education, Human Resources, and Local Government committees, as well as the Administration and Regulation Appropriations Subcommittee

Kreiman said his campaign will focus on protecting vulnerable Iowans, creating jobs encouraging small business growth and that he will continue to seek the help and advice of Southern Iowans by listening and speaking with as many citizens in Senate District 47 as possible.

“I believe that listening is one of the best ways to learn. I’m interested in listening to everyone with a concern or an idea about how we move Iowa forward together,” said Kreiman.  “People are welcome to call me at my home, (641) 664-2811, my cell (515) 210-0560, or email me at lionhart@netins.net.”

Kreiman and his wife, Rose, are the proud parents of Erin, Krista, Shanon and Felica.
