JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A citizen's group that promotes Missouri parks is urging lawmakers to spend money for repairs and maintenance.
Missouri Parks Association President Susan Flader said Thursday the backlog of repairs at state parks is around $200 million. Flader spoke a joint House and Senate committee that reviews state building projects.
Flader urged lawmakers to consider using federal stimulus money to fix leaky roofs, sewage systems and other infrastructure elements.
Missouri parks are funded mostly through a dedicated sales tax. Flader says proceeds from the tax have fallen short, particularly during the recession.
