An investigation of several burglaries in Ottumwa and rural Wapello County has resulted in the execution of search warrants, the seizure of stolen property and arrests. This it the second burglary ring disrupted in the past several days.

On November 18, 2009, members of the Ottumwa Police Department and Wapello County Sheriff’s Office executed search warrants at three residences located in Ottumwa.

The first search warrant was executed at the Jeremy Arguello residence located at 126 South Iowa. The second search warrant was executed at the Kevin Hazelwood residence located at 1846 West Second Street, Lot #10.  The third search warrant was executed at the Duston McLaughlin residence located at 313 North Moore Street. As a result of the search warrants, officers seized items which had been reported stolen during the burglaries. Those arrested are:

  • Jeremy William Arguello age 29, 126 South Iowa. Arguello has been charged with Theft 2nd Degree, On-Going Criminal Conduct, Attempted Burglary 3rd Degree and ten (10) counts of Burglary 3rd
  • Kevin Michael Dean Hazelwood age 26, 1846 West Second Street has been charged with Manufacture of Marijuana, Failure to File the Required Drug Tax Stamp, Attempted Burglary 3rd Degree, On-Going Criminal Conduct and eight (8) counts of Burglary 3rd Degree.
  • Duston Paul McLaughlin age 29, 313 North Moore Street has been charged with six (6) counts of Burglary 3rd Degree, On-Going Criminal Conduct and two (2) counts of Aiding and Abetting Burglary 3rd Degree.

As a result of this investigation officers have been able to clear several burglaries and attempted burglaries which have occurred over the past few months including: The Beach Ottumwa, Jerry’s Truck and Equipment, Morris Furniture, The Ottumwa Recycling Center, Wapello Rural Water, M&J Art Gallery, Dremz Wireless, RMW Vending, SA Poole Leasing, Greiner Implement, the VFW, and Albia Road Car Wash.
