NEAR LEONARD, MO. -- A south central Iowa hunter who was reported missing Sunday evening in Shelby County was found dead Monday morning.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office said the body of Blake Kouri, 24, of Lamoni was discovered just after 7:30 a.m. Monday in a wooded area about two miles southeast of Leonard, Missouri.
He had been hunting with two friends from Independence, Missouri.
The three had gone their separate ways in the woods early Sunday morning on the way to their deer blinds.
The two guys from Independence reported him missing at 7:05 p.m. Sunday.
Searchers looked for Kouri's body for several hours last night and into the early morning hours of Monday.
The search was then called off at 2:30 a.m. Monday.
"We formed three search teams with at least 12 or more individuals on each search team. The search resumed again with the search teams at 7:20 a.m. (Monday)," said Chief Deputy Bill Hester.
Hester told KTVO Blake Kouri's body was found 20 minutes later face down in the woods with his head against a log and his legs in a nearby creek.
No foul play is suspected at this time.
An autopsy is planned for next week to determine a cause of death.
Hester said Kouri's gun had not been discharged.
Those who helped with the search included numerous volunteers, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the Shelbyville Fire Department, the Shelbina Fire Department, the Clarence Fire Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Salt River Ambulance District.
