FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- Hollywood filmmaker, David Lynch, known for such films as The Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, The Straight Story and Mulholland Drive spent the weekend at Maharishi University of Management participating in a variety of events including a panel discussion on Sunday at the Argiro Student Center.

Lynch spoke to KTVO about the importance of Transcendental Meditation (TM) and The David Lynch Foundation and throughout the world.

"So here's a technique that allows anyone to dive within...transcend, experience this unbounded happiness intelligence, creativity within every human being. We just need the technique to get there," Lynch said.

He spoke about the Foundation, and the message of TM.

"We raise money to get Transcendental Meditation to any student anywhere in the world that wants it or any school that wants it for their whole school," Lynch said. "Enough schools have it now: we've been able to help 107,000 students learn Transcendental Meditation thus far. It transforms life, it's a human being thing. It is amazing, amazing because the change comes from within."

The Academy Award-nominated director held a panel discussion with Quantum Physicist Dr. John Hagelin, as well as student leaders in The David Lynch Foundation and the corresponding online network, David Lynch Foundation Television

Lynch said that he has indeed met filmmakers at Maharishi University.

"There is so much interest in film these days and there are many, many students here that are very creative...very intelligent, bright with consciousness, and who knows what they'll do," Lynch said.

The renowned movie director offered some advice for those aspiring filmmakers.

"Always the same; get your own voice and stay true to that voice. And when you get ideas for the film you want to make, stay true to those ideas all along the way. And you’ll be just fine," Lynch said.
