KIRKSVILLE, MO --

When Joyce Cassity walked into the Kirkville License Bureau to get her new license plates, she came out with quite a surprise.

Joyce wanted to make sure her new plates did not have an x because she was rear-ended twice with plates that had an x in the license number. There certainly wasn't an x, but the new plates spelled out something more offensive: WE2  HOR.

“I got in the car, did a double take at the license plate and saw what it said, and I thought oh no, and when my daughter saw it she said, there's no way I’ll ride in the car if those plates are on your car, and I can imagine some of the comments and laughs it would get,” said Cassity.

Joyce was told she'd have to pay $12 for new plates, which she was more than willing to do. But there were so many complaints about that sequence of letters around the state, that she got a new set of plates for free.

Having known Joyce in the past makes this that much more ridiculous. She is such a classy lady, and I can't imagine her having to drive around with these plates- and More so, I can't imagine her not noticing quickly that what they said what completely unacceptable! Way to go, Joyce!

Maybe the state should keep closer tabs on the inmates on what they put on the license plates.

This is the only news KTVO can find to report on?

Should not have to pay

This woman should not have had to pay to have a different number unless she wanted a personalized plate. To have something like that printed should not have made it past the manufacturing facility. Likewise, I'd never pay for a personalized plate because I don't think it's worth the money & don't care to call attention to myself in that way.

Triple "X" Plates

So she did get an "x" in her license number, three of them...! I'm glad the State did the right thing and replaced them without charge.
