OTTUMWA, IOWA -- On Thursday morning, Republican Christopher Reed announced his candidacy for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, Second Congressional District.
Reed hails from Solon, Iowa and is a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. He began his own business, Iowa Answering Service, in 1998.
He traveled throughout Southeast Iowa on Thursday with a tour called "Defending Our Children's Future." Reed spoke to a group of citizens in Ottumwa and said he is running for the congressional seat because he wants to make a difference.
"I want to restore the founding principles of this great nation: individual liberty, personal freedoms and personal responsibility are at my core," Reed said.
He also added that he has no desire to be a career politician.
"I believe that the founding fathers of this country did not have career politicians in mind when they set us up. I believe it's for the individual to go serve, get things done and come back and turn it over to somebody else. Career politicians get out of touch with Iowans and that gets us into trouble," Reed said.
