KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Youth deer hunting season took place last weekend in Missouri.

The Missouri Department of Conservation says that Macon County had the highest number of deer taken in the northeast region. Pike County came in second in the region and Monroe and Randolph Counties tied for third.

142 deer were taken in Adair County this year. Across the board, more deer were killed in all 15 counties in the northeast region this year than last year.

Statewide, more than 13,300 deer were taken during this year's youth hunting season; that's up almost 3,000 from 2008.
