BLODGETT, MO. (AP) -- Two men have died after a single-engine airplane crashed in southeast Missouri.

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter identified the victims as Paul Fisher and Robbie Rollins. Both were from the Cape Girardeau area. The crash happened Saturday when their Piper Super Cub clipped a small shed with its wing as it was taking off from a private strip near the small town of Blodgett. The plane somersaulted and burst into flames.

Walter says a Missouri Highway patrolman lives nearby and tried to save one of the men. The crash happened as the experienced fliers were visiting the owner of the property and returning to the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport.

Walter says investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board will arrive Monday.
