KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- If you see a sign that says “No candy or treats here” Halloween night while trick or treating, you might want to pay special attention.

Missouri sex offenders are required to put that warning in their yards.

They also must keep all their lights off Halloween night and not leave home between 5:00 pm and 10:30 pm.

“They can’t leave unless they have just cause. The only thing I’m considering just cause is if they have to work or have a medical emergency,” Bill King with the Adair County Sheriff’s Office said.

King says he’ll be spot checking the offenders Halloween night to make sure they’re complying.

He recommends parents check out the sex offender registry online.

There are 48 offenders listed in Adair County. Click here to access the registry.
