KIRKSVILLE, MO --

A Kirksville man is behind bars for allegedly hitting and choking his wife.  Louis Pope, 34, is charged with second-degree domestic assault and one count of felonious restraint.  Both are class 'C' felonies.

According to court documents obtained by KTVO, Pope is a persistent offender and has a prior record of two other felonies.  He was found guilty for possession of a controlled substance in Scotland County back in 2000. In 2008, he was found guilty of first-degree burglary in Adair County Court.

Pope is being held in the Adair County Jail on $25,000 cash only bond.

This guy looks pretty proud of himself, if you ask me. I wonder why he feels his behavior is justified? That's what's wrong with people today-they have no perspective taking skills or theory of mind.

Sorry this happened

This dude looks devistated. Maybe the punishment needs to be alittle more severe than the slap on the hands. Send them to prison for a long time, and make the prison system rougher and strickter so its not so ejoyable!!

Keep him away from our families.
