MACON, MO. -- One person is dead after an early morning house fire in Macon.

The fire broke out just before 2:30 Friday morning in the 300 block of Dameron Street.

When firefighters arrived they were told a resident was possibly still inside the home.

"We had a report early on that there could possibly be occupants inside the house.  Unfortunately, due to the heavy fire conditions we encountered we weren't able to mount any type of rescue efforts until we brought the fire under control,” said fire Chief LeRoy Noble.

Noble said it took about an hour to get the blaze under control before firefighters could search the home. They found one victim inside.

Macon County Coroner Brian Hayes told KTVO-TV the victim was Patrick Bixler, 42.    Hayes said Bixler lived in the home.

The State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.
