JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- Missouri Veterans Commission Executive Director Larry Kay announced the appointment of Gerry Hodge as Director for the State Veterans Cemetery at Jacksonville. The appointment becomes effective Oct.1, 2009.  He replaces Jerry Quigley, who retired July 31, 2009.

Hodge served in the United States Army as a member of the Military Police for 15 years. He joined the Missouri Veterans Commission’s Veterans Service Program in 1995 as a Veterans Service Officer in the Northeast Region.  Most recently Hodge assumed the responsibilities for the Incarcerated Veterans Re-entry Program.

As Director, Hodge will oversee the 117 acre cemetery with approximately 40,000 burial sites along with a Columbarium with approximately 800 niches for cremations.  Interment in the cemetery is free to all honorably discharged active duty veterans and Reserve or National Guard members who are eligible for retirement or who have been activated by the federal government and completed the period for which activated.  Also eligible for interment are spouses and dependent children.  All interment services are free and include: burial plot, upright granite marker, opening and closing of the grave, concrete grave liner, and perpetual care at the Jacksonville location.   Burials will also be completed with full military honors.

The Missouri Veterans Commission operates seven state veterans homes, six state veterans cemeteries and the Veterans Services Program.  The Commission is committed to honoring and serving Missouri’s veterans whose dedication and sacrifices have preserved our nation and its freedoms.
