QUEEN CITY, MO --

School kids at Schuyler County R-1 got a break from the classroom Thursday to learn about farm safety.

The event has been put on for several years by the University of Missouri Extension along with Missouri Farm Bureau. Organizers say that with harvest season coming up, now is the perfect time to remind everyone to be careful around the farm and home.

Kids could visit several different booths and participate in hands-on activities.

“We’ve got grain safety, poison look-alike where they learn about very similar things, candy versus maybe a pain reliever. We've got livestock safety. The Missouri Department of Conservation is here doing hunting and firearms safety,” said Darla Campbell, University of Missouri Extension.

Other stations included lawnmower, electrical, and water safety.
