Mike Rodgers, associate professor of English and philosophy at Missouri Southern State University, Joplin, Mo., will deliver an inspirational address at this week’s Forum program at Iowa Wesleyan College. The program will begin at 11 a.m. in the Iowa Wesleyan College Chapel.

His program is described as “a message of hope and inspiration about the transformative possibilities of a college education for all of our students,” according to Dr. Jeff Martinek, a former colleague of Rodgers’. Martinek is now associate professor of English at Iowa Wesleyan.

“Mike is most famous at MSSU for his ability to inspire and empower first-generation college students, athletes, and those still struggling to carve out their identity in the intellectual culture of academic life,” Martinek said.

Rodgers is an award-winning teacher, student mentor, poet, scholar, and spoken-word performer. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Central State University (Ohio) and his master’s degree at Pittsburg State University (Kansas). He has completed work toward a doctoral degree at the University of Tulsa.

Forum programs are held every Thursday morning at 11 a.m. during the academic year at Iowa Wesleyan. The public is invited.
