SIGOURNEY, IOWA -- A ceremony was held at Sigourney High School on Thursday to present students, 9th through 12th graders, with Apple MacBook laptops. The computers are made possible by the Statewide Penny Grant.

KTVO spoke with two students and the principal of Sigourney High School, Jeff Kirby.

"It's really exciting. What we hope to do is really level the playing field for all kids. And allow these kids that don't have access to a computer at home. They will now be able to access a computer at home," Kirby said.

"It's going to be a big advantage for us, and just helping all the students in classes," said Julia Mohr, a junior.

"It gives everybody an equal opportunity to learn and everybody has the MacBooks, so everybody has the same skill set to use in class to help them progress," said Jessica Magill, a sophomore.

School officials said that the new technology will change the way students are taught in the classroom, and students said that the laptops are a great learning tool...especially with programs for math.

“We’ve explored the programs and they have lots of math programs to help you out,” Magill said.

“There’s a lot of graphing. Anything you want it’s pretty much got it,” Mohr said.
