ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Gov. Jay Nixon is preparing to announce details of a pilot program to deter thefts of license tabs from vehicle plates.

Nixon was scheduled to hold a news conference Friday at 2:15 p.m. at the Schlafly branch of the St. Louis Public Library.

Nixon's office says tens of thousands of license tabs are stolen every year in Missouri. The Democratic governor will be joined at the news conference by St. Louis Police Chief Daniel Isom and Alana Barragan-Scott, acting director of the state Department of Revenue.
