KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer paid an unusual visit to Truman State University Monday.

On his agenda was touring Pershing Arena and Magruder Hall.  Pershing Arena recently received partial funding from the state for renovations.

Luetkemeyer said the project is considered "shovel ready" and that's what the economy needs.

President Darrell Krueger and Luetkemeyer discussed the educational benefits of the economic stimulus package.

“Within the stimulus package there is some Pell Grant money, which is a good thing.  It helps students be able to pay for their education and that's kind of a long term stimulus effect there.  I mean obviously that's not gonna provide a job in the next 120, 180 days, but the ability of someone to get an education is an economic development tool,” said U.S. Representative Blaine Luetkemeyer.

“If they go back to the rules, it will make it very difficult to get earmarks through the next two years because number one we don't have any more money, we just blew it all on this stimulus package.  Although, we're gonna have to print some more in order to be able to bail out the financial institutes and the automobile manufacturers,” said Luetkemeyer.

Nothing

Right now the Republican Party has no answers. There problems is that they have played to an uninformed base for so long that it has come back to haunt them now.

Now, everyone is in the same boat of struggle. Washington has no idea what everyday folk are experiencing. That is the Republican party problem. They want to vote against the every day people.

Republican Govenors and Mayors see everyday struggle and know they can not afford to play partisan politics. So, Republicans in Washington have to talk out of the side of their mouths..bad mouth the stimulus package in the media but welcome the funds from it back home in their districts.

Typical.

Of course this bill is beneficial to the public. We all pay taxes. It's time the government spent some money helping US instead of themselves for a change.

I wonder why Luetkemeyer voted AGAINST the bill in Washington, but seems to really support it at home? Maybe there are two different, yet identical Congressman Leutkemeyers?

Common Sense

Possibly he has some common sense. I would read a little closer.

Voting against Pell Grant Money: "A good thing?!"

Posted by B R, Columbia, MO - Monday, February 16, 2009 at 11:52 p.m.

The audacity of Luetkemeyer is almost baffling.

Calling Pell Grant funding is a "good idea" and then vote against it?!

Calling shovel ready projects what the economy needs, and then voting against them?!

It's time for Blaine to recognize the reality of the situation. Missouri's students and families are hurting and if he can't break the party line to help them, then he won't last long in Washington.
