KIRKSVILLE, MO -- It’s not everyday you hear about a million dollar house in Kirksville. A house on Garrett Drive was listed at a million dollars, but has been reduced to $870,000 because of the tough economic times.

Realtor Vicki Benson says the 7000 square foot house is one of a kind with 2 kitchens, 5 bedrooms, and 6 bathrooms. Despite the tough economic times, Benson says the local real estate market is still stable, but tight.  She said, “We (Heritage House Realty) alone have sold almost 30 million dollars worth of real estate year to date. But do we believe it’s a tight market? Yes.”

Benson says selling such an expensive house is a challenge, but is very doable. “Our average sale price is $90,000 to $100,000, so this is in the upper range for Kirksville. But we sell upper range homes all the time,“ Benson said.

no news is good news

Would agree this story borders on infomercial, but with real estate market problems everywhere, it does have a "peg", so I'd say it's good filler, at least.

(Reminder to Barrington poohbahs: DTV conversion is coming soon...are your over the air viewers ready with new UHF (most likely outdoor) antennas? February is a bad time for people to scramble around on roofs.)

Thanks Mary, but I don't want to buy your house. My housing needs are already being met. It has been four days since this article appeared and there have been no other million dollar house listings in Kirksville. Maybe it is newsworthy afterall.

MILLION DOLLAR HOME

Posted by Mary Can't Tell, Kirksville - Saturday, October 04, 2008 at 3:37 p.m.

I can't believe you people are even commenting about the house. That is exactly what the REALTOR and home owner wanted------free advertising.
I rather doubt it will be sold off this blog. As far as lazy, "undeducated" I hardly believe that to be true. Possibly that is why it hasn't sold. Most buyers are more educated and smarter than that. I know few folks in KV that would pay that if they could in KV.
If anyone knows who owns the home, please post. I am pretty sure I know but for the sake of this comment not being printed, I will give no names.
For everyones' sake, just leave it alone as none of us idiots posting on this site would have the education or good paying job to purchase the home since we drive around in rusted pickup trucks and bird dogs hanging out. LOL
Whoever you are Mr. Rich, take a hard look at yourself and if you think you are so magnificent, then prove it and you "BUY" the house. Then you can blog here and prove how great you really are as well as how educated you are!

Wow

You think it is every day a house is listed for sale in Kirksville for a million dollars? I hope everyone that has ever griped about not being able to find a good paying job for their lazy, uneducated butt reads this article. You too can have the good life if you finish high school, go to college, and take educated risks in life. The owner of the house obviously got tired of people driving by in rusted trucks with six bird dogs and a shoeless wife just to point out "where that rich fella lives".

Infomercial

This piece of "journalism" has crossed the line into the region of the infomercial. But then again, what else would KTVO have to "report" on without the gentle nudge from our community "leaders"?

Nothing better to talk about?

Is there not enough news in kirksville so we talk about a house listed for a million, OH MY , sad!
