Rear end crash kills local child

ADAIR COUNTY, MO. -- A traffic crash claimed the life of a local child Saturday.

The crash happened just before noon on Route O, four miles north of Novinger.

A van driven by 39-year-old Ann Ferguson of Greencastle was going southbound on Route O when it rear-ended a Missouri Department of Transportation truck driven by 44-year-old Larry Finley of Trenton.

First responders on the scene of the accident tell KTVO the MODOT truck was carrying a log that went through the windshield of Ferguson’s van. A passenger in the van, 10-year-old Allison Pfeiffer of Greencastle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ann Ferguson was seriously injured in the crash. Another passenger in the van, 8-year-old Shane Ferguson, suffered moderate injuries.

Both Ann and Shane Ferguson were taken to Northeast Regional Medical Center and then life flighted to University Hospital in Columbia.

Hospital officials tell KTVO Ann Ferguson is in critical condition tonight. Shane Ferguson is listed in serious condition.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
