KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Republican Josh Dole won the Schuyler County Sheriff's race in Tuesday's election with 1,013 votes.

Dole beat out incumbent Carl “Fritz” Gottman and Independent candidate, Joe Wuebker.

They received 583 votes and 363 votes, respectively.

Dole said after it was announced that he was the winner, he felt relieved and was happy that all of the hard work paid off.

“First thing we have to do is look at hiring some more deputies,” Dole said. “We're going to be short staffed (with) deputies. (We will also be) digging in paperwork and (figuring) what areas we need to start working on.”

Dole said when he was out campaigning; many citizens expressed concerns about the lack of patrolling and accessibility. He said his key goal will be fixing that problem.
