LA PLATA, MO. -- Two ribbon cuttings took place in La Plata, Missouri on Saturday.

The first was at for the grand opening of "the exhibition of Amtrak history", a tribute to the popular passenger line.

The second was the opening of the silver rails convention center.

“The more we though about it, the more we realized that there really are a need for banquet facilities in this area,” said Depot Inn & Suites Owner, Kelly Marshall, “we decided that this would be a great way to kick off the Silver Rails Resort and to get things moving so I guess you could say that the Silver Rails Event Center is sort of the tip of the iceberg for the Silver Rails Resort.”

The convention center already has forty events booked with many more on the way.

The ribbon cuttings were followed by a gala which featured a social hour, dinner, and dancing as well as a presentation for the Silver Rails Resort.

The goal is for the resort to make it a train lover's paradise, sitting on 170 acres of land.

The project will cost approximately $2,500,000 and bring over 500 new jobs to the area.

How about we make La Plata the new Kv, Hey how about bringing your trailers houses ( since you have to move ) to La Plata. Biggs trailer park has some empty spots where you houses could go, Lets make La Plata the largest city in North Missouri not Kv and start over again maybe better this time tho.

Disappointed

As a native of La Plata, I was somewhat disappointed in the coverage from KTVO and the Daily Express for the Gala in La Plata last Saturday night. This is a great thing these people are doing for La Plata. They could have gone elsewhere for this project, but they chose to bring life back to our La plata. It may not revitalize the downtown area but it will certainly bring revenue to town! It would be nice to see new shops go in downtown LaPlata. These people are going to shop some place!

I advise people to check out the Truman Index website, for a more detailed story about the Silver Rails Resort in Laplata. It tells so much more information about what's going on. In fact, I think that they do a better job of keeping the public informed about important things. Thanks Index!

What a wonderful idea for LaPlata

My son and grandson and myself stayed at the Depot Inn last summer and caught the train to Chicago. It was a lovely place to stay, and the amenities were great. My father worked on the Santa Fe out of Marceline and passed away in 1970. The memorbilia on display there brought so many memories back to me,things I hadn't thought of for many years. We enjoyed studying the plans for the future convention center coming and the wonderful plans for many more things to come. I think it is wonderful for your town to be revived with this all coming together.
