JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (AP) -- A projected shortfall in the state fund for disabled workers caused some finger-pointing Wednesday between Governor Blunt and Attorney General Jay Nixon.

A state audit and an outside accounting firm both have warned that Missouri's Second Injury Fund will run out of money either this year or next.

The attorney general's office defends claims against the fund.

Blunt and several Republican legislators Wednesday blamed the mess on Nixon's office. And they said they can't pursue legislation to fix the fund until Nixon says how the disability payments would be handled if the fund goes insolvent. They claimed Nixon has repeatedly refused to respond to information requests.

But a Nixon spokesman said the attorney general's office has provided plenty of information about the Second Injury Fund.
