OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Ottumwa Fraternal Order of Eagles celebrated its 107th birthday with a night full of fun to benefit diabetes research this weekend.

The Eagles hosted an auction, a dinner, and a dance as part of the anniversary festivities.

All the proceeds from the events went towards the Diabetes Research Center at the University of Iowa.

The Iowa State Eagles have a goal of $200,000 this year as part of a national Eagles' goal of $5 million a year for Five years.

"You take someone with diabetes, anybody regardless of their age, their medical cost is going to be 2-3 times at minimum more than mine is.  That one of the reasons we've taken on this challenge, to find a cure for diabetes," said John Haidsiak, Iowa State Charity Chairman.

The Ottumwa Eagles estimate they raised over $2,000 from this weekend's auction, raffle, and dinner.
