I'm from Southeast Iowa, and I grew up watching KTVO. How exciting it was for me to join the News Team that I watched as a kid.

MACON COUNTY, MO --

The trip from Macon to Clarence will now be a little faster.

MoDOT opened the new four-lane highway between Macon and Clarence on Highway 36 Thursday afternoon. The newly completed stretch of highway includes the interchange at Clarence. The project began in late 2007, and is not quite finished yet.

“It's about a 12 mile section. It's part of a larger project that actually extends the four-lane from Macon all the way to Shelbina. The remaining 12 miles or so between Macon and Shelbina will be open next year, probably around July,” said Jeff Gander, MoDOT Resident Engineer.

MoDOT worked Thursday on changing the speed limit signs to 65 and the striping from a two-lane road to a four-lane. Drivers are urged to take caution while the road construction is still going on.
