KIRKSVILLE, MO --

We were off to see the wizard Sunday at the Kirksville Middle School.

Kirksville High School had its closing performance of The Wizard of Oz Sunday afternoon. It took hundreds to pull off the classic musical, including dozens of kids who played the munchkins, and a real dog cast in the role of Toto.

“It was really good to do a well known musical because it's a really big crowd every night and they all get really into it, they know the story, but it's also a lot of pressure because you have to match up to Judy Garland so I had to get ready for it, it took a lot of work but it was totally worth it,” said Bailey Jones, who played “Dorothy.”

Jones says she got ready for the role by taking voice lessons and watching the movie. The show was a big hit, drawing huge crowds to all four of the performances. Faculty selected the musical because this year marks the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz movie.
