MACON, MO --

A Macon girl is heading all the way to the state Punt, Pass, Kick competition in St. Louis this month. 13-year-old Shelby Schaefer has been the winner of the local Macon competition in her age group for the last five years. This was her first year winning the regional competition in Jefferson City.

“I like to do it because I just like the sport of football. I like to watch it, I kind of like to play it. It's just all around fun for me,” said Schaefer.

At the end of the month, Shelby will compete for the state title at a St. Louis Rams game. She'll be training with the Macon football coaches to get ready for the big day.

“I think it's just another sport that girls can also play. I think girls are just as equal almost as boys can be in the football area,” Schaefer said.

The winner of the state competition will have the chance to attend an NFL playoff game in January.
