NEAR GREENTOP, MO. -- Two area men are facing drug charges after authorities say they found them with some meth and 20 pounds of processed marijuana.

Ricky Rowland, 57, of Greentop and James Simmons, 56, of Queen City were arrested Friday.

Both are charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, deliver, manufacture or produce.

Rowland is also charged with possession of 35 grams or less of meth.

Both men are being held in the Scotland County Jail in Memphis.

The two were arrested by the North Missouri Drug Task Force and the Schuyler County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators found approximately 20 pounds of processed pot, with a street value of around $20,000 at Rowland's residence outside Greentop.

"Schuyler County, they've been awesome to work with, and it was actually them who developed the tip and contacted us," said Captain Chris Brown, the drug task force’s director of operations.

That tip came from a citizen.

Investigators also discovered drug paraphernalia at Rowland's home.

Just checking in to see all of the comments. Anxious to see if any smart people are left out there. Smart as in knowing who is a good person and who is not. I have learned lately that 20lbs of pot =about 2lbs. Also have learned that good people still exist even after so-called friends and the heartless media has broke them down to nothing. PD, goverment, Insurance Company's, Pharmaciticul and Media are the devil-that's for sure. If the cure aint in a bottle with an insurance name on it- you are a bad person-you are a drug dealer.THERE IS NO MONEY IN A CURE PEOPLE! By the way-weed DID NOT get to your grand kids from these 2 men-so look again! Still a big supporter Rick and Jim-hang in there-someone else will be making a bigger headliner tommorow! KTVO, you are snakes! how do you sleep at night? Hope that pay check is worth it when you're explaining your a** at the pearly gates!! tata

People need to sit back and think about all of this.If Rick and Jim want to smoke a little pot or whatever else it's there life. It's already taken a toll on them, but when your talking about 20 lbs of pot I think it envolves more then smoking.Times are tough and they make an easy buck off it but do you want your kid or grand kids getting a hold of it.Not saying they would sell it to just anyone but thats how it gets around.Someone starts it.It's against the law we all know it just like many other things are,if you break it you pay the price. So in the end your opinion nor mine doesn't really matter it's in the laws hands now.I hope everything works out for them and there families and they learn something from all of this. They are good people just got caught up in this stuff like so many do.It's shocking the people that do this ones you would least exspect not just these guys.Instead of pointing fingers anymore lets pray for them an there families...

Maybe we should all go look in our medicine cabinets and look at what big brother is doing to us or look in your fridge at the alcohol and then wonder to yourself who is right and who is wrong.Your elected officials know the truth but won't do anything because we aren't the ones who give them thier financial support, these people we elect need to grow a spine and make a stand now before we become a police state, where no one can make a decision but them.

You know it's really amazing how some people speculate and come up with thier own preconcieved notions about these two wonderful men.Yes they were wrong for what happened to them in the eyes of the antiquated laws of Missouri, but they and thier families are the ones who must deal with this. They dealt with thier physical and mental problems in thier own privacy, didn't deal drugs, didn't harm anyone, tried to take care of thier families, held jobs, gave of thier time so they can now be persecuted.

Pot Heads

Posted by Just a Towner, Kirksville - Saturday, November 07, 2009 at 12:44 a.m.

Weed impairs people's judgment & I wouldn't want someone driving if they were high on the stuff. Booze has ruined many lives as well but is still legal. Too many want to legalize pot just because they want to be able to use it. I'd like to outlaw booze but that will never happen. People will get the stuff no matter what. But pot is a drug no matter what anyone says.

This started out as a spot to say what you wish, good or bad about what happened to these two guys, whom I know myself and think that some snitch turned in to save their own but or for money so they could support their own habit.Anyway, maybe instead of paying snitches to ruin people's lives they could use some of that money to reeducate more people so that they could actually spell words and write so that others didn't think we were all a bunch of hicks from northeast Missouri who do nothing but drink and do drugs to pass the time.

marijuana does not make you a bad person

Geez, you guys seem to think because a person smokes marijuana that makes them un caring, un nice, un hard working. No it just makes you a dope smoker, you can still work still be a nice person and care about your friends and family. Its just illegal if you get caught with it.

Later in the 20th century when the african-americans found out the magical and herbal properties of marijuana,William Randolph Hearst talked the government into stopping the raising hemp as a crop, because it supposedly hurt his paper industry, needless to say there were racial overtones along with this, which also stopped the marijuana with active amounts of thc.Old hemp still grows in Missouri.I've seen it in western Putnam County,it's crap, save your lungs.

This a continuation of my last blog, enough about the meth. Now marijuana on the other hand opens up all kinds of things. Our forefathers raised hemp as a crop, but it wasn't all for rope for ships and cloth.George Washington raised it as a huge crop and certain plants were seperated from others by his slaves per his orders, and if you'll look at the picture of him crossing the Delaware river he has a pipe in his hand and he didn't smoke tobacco, also Thomas Jefferson raised huge "hemp crops" on his plantation when he wasn't at the female slave quarters

you know it's pretty amazing that with allthe blogs good and bad about this article,I don't if any of you have noticed that one of the new stories on this site has to do with the state of Iowa comptemplating passing a bill for the use of medicinal marijuana, ironic? How long will they hold this up and allow more people to suffer before they get their heads out of their rears and fix this now and that goes for the state of Missouri and the whole country, because not everybody is a recreational user.I've watched friends and relatives shrivel up and suffer horribly before they mercifully pass away while the big pharmacuetical companies and the medical professionals make thier money and keep getting richer.About the meth, maybe there was some, maybe it was planted,we don't know if there was and for how much there may have been, but gee guess where it originated from?Your very own government and it's scientist were using it on soldiers in WWII and someone found the formula and now it's been so adulterated by these bathtub cookers or wherever else they make it who knows what the heck is in that stuff?

Do not understand.....

Posted by well lets see, kirksville - Thursday, November 05, 2009 at 9:30 p.m.

I just do not understand what is happening in our community or the world for all that matters. JUST because some states have legalized medical "pot" to subside pain does not mean that every american can get jacked up on the stuff. I do not know either of these men but I am just commenting on my thought of the "alright to get high" protesters. What is the delusional effects of one joint, bowl etc to alocohol. I can go to Ayerco and buy beer but not pot ...it is illegal. Alochol also relaxes and takes away pain as long as it is not consumed irresponsibily. Easy, drink do not drive. Easy pot is illegal and how is a high driver not at risk of inflicting injury to others? Like I said I do not know these men but our laws need to effect people who drive under the influence of any haliciant. No I know they were not driving just expressing my opinion on DRUGS vs Alochol. Adair co receives 96,000 a year for the drug task force why is everyone convinced they were busted cuz someone was a snitch? Start lookin at all the people who are over confident that does do illegal activities and if there is a snitch out there use common sense people will figure it out.

shocked at all of YOU!

2 things that shock me through all of this is #1 the low life that snitched on these men and #2 the people who have claimed to be Rick's friend all along. ive heard co-workers say "oh but rick is such a nice man always helpful and caring and makes people happy"then you turned your back on him when he needs you the most. Hate to tell you people but Rick IS that caring and wonderful person you guys are losing sight of just because you believe everything you see on your tv after eating your McDonalds on the couch. If you believe everything you see on your television well then you my friend are ignorant to this world. There was no meth there and if there was I'm sure it was planted. I have known Rick for a long time and have been to his house many times in seek of advice of friends, life, religion or whatever ailed me that day, and Rick is one of the most intellegent kindest man I know. He has served for us and knows a h--- of all alot about life than you can imagine. I understand a lot of people dont agree with marijuana-because it is so bad right?-Cigarettes are worse for you and they are legal and so is alcohol. Id rather hitch a ride home with someone who smoked a joint rather than someone who has drank a bottle of Jack. But Rick never hurt no one-he worked hard and has been a good friend to lots of people. TV, the PD and the "narks" need to get their s*** together and back off. There is only one judgement that matters and it is not yours or mine. God bless you Rick and Jim. I am behind you Rick 100%.

evidently some people don't read the whole article,it said 35 grams or less, and someone who suffers with epelepsy is not going to compromise there health with that stuff. When the law and the media print this charge they don't put the actual amount or true weight at the beginning,it has to be sensationalized to look better, that way they pay for all their toys and snitches, and can lerk in the bushes watching maybe even you.

Ok, I am all for the support of legalizing marijuana, and the use of medical marijuana... but how do you explain the 35 grams of meth on the guy? Really is that used for any medical use? Dont try to defend these guys with something you are just speculating on. come on.

yes, this was quite shocking,as both of these men are good people, not what they are portrayed as with the media and law enforcement has made them out to be.Yes we all know what they were found with is illegal in the state of Missouri and was a huge amount of marijuana, but in 13 other states in this great country of ours there would probably not have been any big concern. The anonymous tip was probably from someone needing to save their rear-end,because neither one of these men are dealers. As a matter of fact Mr.Rowland is a Viet Nam era veteran and Mr.Simmons is an epeleptic who both probably use marijuana to help control physical or mental problems, not to sell on the streetYes it was illegal and I,m sure both are ashamed and sorry, but I,m sure both will try to resolve this however possible, maybe the state needs to look at the laws and change things, because I,m sure there are cancer, glaucoma, alzheimer, epeleptic patients and many others who benefit if our state laws were modified, let alone the overcrowded prisons, but that might take money from the law enforcement machine so that they might have to take care of the baby-rapers,molesters and other real criminals.

Here's a thought

Posted by Yore Fullacrap, KV - Wednesday, November 04, 2009 at 5:13 p.m.

I have known these guys for years, one better than the other but i know them both just the same. I know Jim has done nothing for the last 25 years or more but work hard to make a living for his family. Our son's played baseball as long as I can remember and jim was there coaching and helping as much as anybody and I have seen him donate time to the special olympics and can't really say I have ever heard him say a bad word about anyone. If that is what happens if you associate around with pot smokers I think there are a lot of others around that should try it. Just a thought.

Disturbing

I'm sad & disturbed by this story as I vaguely know these 2. They are old enough to know better & that's all I can say.

Where are their mugshots? The pictures appeared to be fairly uneventful on the news broadcast. Their hair wasn't messed up. They had no contusions. They didn't even have any unusual facial expressions.

I was absolutely shocked when i saw Jim and Rick's mug shots. Here are two men that i have worked with for about two years now, and i would have never guessed that they would ever be envolved in this sort of thing. Rick is one of the nicest guys, always said hello and would strike up a conversation with you, joke around and make a lot of people feel better. Jim was very helpfull to me when i had first started working at my job. Very nice knowledgeable, and he had been there forever it seemed. This just goes to show that life is full of surprises. You see this kind of thing on tv a lot, you think you know what kind of people do this, you don't expect this kind of thing to happen to people you know and see everyday.
