UNIONVILLE, MO --

A Unionville man, accused of beating a woman so badly she ended up in intensive care, had his preliminary hearing Wednesday in a Putnam County courtroom.

James Schnelle, 61, is charged with felony charges of 1st Degree Assault and 1st Degree Burglary in the incident that occurred in late June. The judge ruled there was sufficient evidence to send the case to Putnam County Circuit Court. Schnelle had requested a reduction in his bond amount, but due to concerns for the alleged victim and her family, the judge ruled that Schnelle's bond would remain at $150,000 cash only.

His next court date is set for September 9 in Putnam County Circuit Court.
