MOBERLY, Missouri) - On Monday, August 10, 2009 about 4:50pm, Moberly Police were dispatched to a residence in the 700 block of Farror in reference to a stolen vehicle.
Upon arrival of officers, the victim reported their vehicle, a 1993 Mercury Topaz, was stolen by an unknown W/M subject and the vehicle was last seen westbound from the area. This vehicle was later found abandoned in the 1100 block of Taylor.
About 10:30 pm the same date, Moberly Police were contacted about another vehicle, a 2000 Ford Explorer, that had been stolen from the 400 block of W Rollins.
About midnight, an officer on patrol observed the Ford Explorer in the 1700 block of N Morley. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, which failed to yield, and the officer gave pursuit. The stolen vehicle turned on side streets until it reached US 24 where it continued westbound out of the city at speeds in excess of 90 mph. Once the vehicle left city limits, the pursuit was turned over to Randolph County Sheriff’s Deputies, who continued to pursue the vehicle into Chariton County, where Chariton County Deputies engaged the pursuit and were joined by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. As the pursuit continued into Carroll County, the vehicle was stopped by use of spike strips by Carroll County authorities.
The driver, a 16 year old male from Moberly, was taken into custody and transported back to Moberly by a Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper.
During questioning, the juvenile admitted stealing both vehicles, and was turned over to the Randolph County Juvenile Officer.
