FAIRFIELD, IA -- Vocal Point, Brigham Young University’s renowned nine-man contemporary a cappella group, thrills audiences with a creative show that combines harmony, and remarkable vocal percussion into an exciting and unique style, Maximum A Cappella.
Live on the Square Summer Concert Series presents Vocal Point in a free concert on the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center plaza at noon, Friday, August 14.
The nine voices of Vocal Point extend the musical possibilities far beyond the capabilities of a traditional four-part quartet.
The ensemble does not use any musical instruments; instead, they adapt a song’s complex instrumentation into an original vocal reaction. Audience members have been known to mistake the complex sound s for musical instruments during a performance.
"Fairfield will be entertained with an unbelievable performance of vocal performance,” said Rustin Lippincott, Executive Director, Fairfield Iowa Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Vocal Point is bringing their national champion repertoire of rock, pop, country, jazz and R&B to the Square for a special, must-see performance.”
Vocal Point’s ensemble is geared to entertain audiences of every age and performs regularly for various types of crowds, from corporate executives to school children. Vocal Point’s members are selected for their musical ability, creativity, and stage experience—a combination which adds up to original, skillful, and spirited performances.
The reputation of Vocal Point has spread rapidly. The group performs for over 50,000 people each year and their campus shows regularly sell-out weeks in advance. Vocal Point has performed for the San Francisco Giants at 3Com Stadium, Utah Jazz’s halftime show, and for ambassadors from around the world in Washington, D.C.
This season, Vocal Point will perform for the first time in Anchorage, Alaska. The ensemble also performs at schools and arts series throughout the region.
