MILAN, MO --
Residents of Sullivan County have a chance to support their local hospital on August 4.
Sullivan County has a half-cent sales tax that funds a large portion of Sullivan County Memorial Hospital. Management says the hospital receives nearly a quarter of a million dollars in funding that it uses for equipment purchases, patient care, and improvements.
CEO Amy Michael says Sullivan County's only hospital is not asking for extra money, the sales tax contribution has been around for the past few years.
“This is the third go-around we've had in place going almost-close to 10 years. If it passes in August it will just be a continuation, so we are not asking for a new half-cent sales tax, it's for a continuation of the one we currently have in place,” Michael said.
Michael also says that the funding is crucial to the hospital's day to day operation. Equipment the hospital purchased with the money from the sales tax includes facilities for elderly care, an ACT Scanner, and radiology equipment.
