IOWA CITY, IOWA (AP) -- A biplane has made an emergency landing on an Iowa City street, startling motorists but not causing any injuries.
The bright red-and-white plane landed Wednesday on First Avenue on the northeast edge of town just before noon.
Pilot Ron Miller says the plane's engines quit and he couldn't get them restarted, so he headed for a road without power lines. He avoided a van but hit a couple of road signs.
Miller owns Ron's Flying of Mulberry, Fla., and was flying the plane from Grinnell, Iowa, to its new owner in Long Island, N.Y.
After stopping, Miller called police on his cell phone.
Police spokesman Troy Kelsay says the plane was registered to Steven Hartley of Brooklyn, Iowa.
The plane was taken by truck to the Iowa City Municipal Airport.
