LA PLATA, MO --

Many viewers have asked us about the progress of the Silver Rails Resort in La Plata, Missouri so we sent our Fact Finder Team to get an update. The train-centered resort has been in a work-in-progress for the last several years.

“It is moving forward, it's just that people aren't seeing bulldozers on the land and dirt moving, and so naturally people tend to think “Well is it going or not?” My answer to that would be an emphatic---absolutely,” said Resort Vice President Kelly Marshall.

Marshall could not give Fact Finder a timeline of when the water park and resort would be finished, but say they are working feverishly to keep the project going. In the meantime, they are working on a few side projects that should be complete starting in just a few weeks. The projects include improvements to Lookout Point, a walking flower garden, and a model train display in a train car near the Depot Inn.

“That will be open for the public to look at and it'll be completely animated so you'll be able to push buttons and make the trains move and what not. I expect that'll be operable and open within the next two to three weeks,” Marshall said.

The train car will also be a Visitors Center where the public can get updates on the resort. Marshall says they have recently hired more people to make the resort a reality. She says with the current economy, they have to be very careful about who they bring on board.

“The fit has to be perfect. We all have to be of like-mind and we need to have the same focus and the same goal, and that goal ultimately is the improvement of the economy of Northeast Missouri as a whole,” Marshall said.
