KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The “Food for Kids” program is underway in several Kirksville parks this summer.

“Food for Kids” provides free bagged lunches to anyone who comes to Brashear, P. C. Mills, Jaycee, or Memorial Parks between noon and one weekdays through August 14th.

Although they don't turn anyone away, children receiving free or reduced lunches are the target population.

“It’s just a good way for me to serve our community and it provides a service that we need for the kids,” said volunteer Erin Northcutt.

The food is provided by Central Missouri Food Bank and the program is locally sponsored by the First United Methodist Church in Kirksville.

Volunteers from multiple service organizations and churches help organize the event but they say it's supported by many members of the community.

Last year almost 9500 lunches were provided.
