CLARK COUNTY, MO. -- A drowning claimed the life of a Northeast Missouri teenager over the weekend.

Around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, the Keokuk Volunteer Emergency Corps discovered Michael Hobb, 16, in a small pond in south central Clark County.

Clark County Sheriff Paul Gaudette said Hobb was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators concluded that Hobb’s death was an accident.

Hobb did not know how to swim, but Gaudette said the teen was trying to make it across the pond using a small log as a flotation device.

Hobb somehow lost his grasp on the log and was not able to reach the shore.

The property where Hobb was found has a rural Canton address. Hobb's parents are Elmer and Sandra Hobb.
