KIRKSVILLE, MO --

Sunday marked the 40th Anniversary of Community Opportunities, Inc, the sheltered workshop in Kirksville.

In honor of the occasion, awarding winning Bluegrass singer Rhonda Vincent and her band “The Rage” put on a free concert at the Rotary Park Amphitheater. The sheltered workshop offers recycling, lawn service, and car detailing for the community.

“We've had some good years now as well as lean years as far as finances are concerned, so this is a part of the thing today to try and alert people to the fact that we're here and we need your help,” said Co-Presidents Larry Whitney and Harvey Young.

Vincent is originally from Greentop Missouri, and has personal ties to the workshop. Her husband serves on the board, and has a relative employed at the workshop.

“As we learned more about it, we just wanted to get involved more and more and to know how much Steve enjoys it, that's on a very personal level. But then to meet all of these young men and women, and there's nothing like the unconditional love that you get from them and we stopped by the workshop and it was great to see how much they just brighten your day,” Vincent said.

Vincent said it was wonderful to perform at home for such a great organization.

I can remember as a child listening to Rhonda when she to was a child in the country were I was raised. Every Saturday night we would have several talented bluegrass musicians from all around come out and play for several hours. We would all sit on bales of hay and enjoy a somewhat forgotten music in today's society. Even Rhonda's mom and dad, who owns Sally Mountain, still play great music. I wish i had known of this event in advance as I would have attended. Best of luck and continued success Vincent family.

Rhonda is such a talented artist, very "down-home" and so proud of her heritage. She hasn't left us behind, even as her career heads for the stars. Listening to her is always such a delight! Thanks Rhonda! We're fans forever!
