KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Kirksville’s EMT program has been accredited for another 5 years. The announcement was made at Thursday night’s Adair County Ambulance District meeting.

The program trains emergency medical technicians and paramedics. It’s based at ACAD.

The assistant chief there says becoming an EMT or a paramedic could be a good option for someone out of work.

“The baby boomers are getting to a place where they need healthcare. I know certainly we’ve seeing our run volume increase over the past several years,” Assistant Chief Troy Mihalevich said.

At Thursday night’s ACAD meeting, the board discussed hiring new EMTs and paramedics. EMT training costs roughly $500.00 and is about 140 hours of class. The only prerequisite is a high school diploma.
