LA PLATA, MO -- La Plata High School Senior Zach Small is a well-rounded student, athlete, and musician.
“I'm President of Student Council, I am President of Science Club, I am in Leo Club, Beta Club, FBLA, Drama Club, basketball. I played fall baseball this year and I'm doing track,” said Small.
He's a talented singer, and has received some prestigious musical honors.
“This year I did conference choir, went to district choir and was an alternate for state choir. I also do vocal competitions, music competition in spring and I went down to state the past 2 years,” Small said.
His teachers are more than willing to sing his praises.
“Zach is really one of the good kids. He's a well-rounded student. He was selected for all-state choir this year, which is quite an accomplishment, especially coming from a small school like this. It's just really fantastic to work with him,” said Music Teacher Alex Manners.
He hopes to one day be a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine by majoring in pre-med at Truman State University.
“I always liked the idea of helping people out, I love school, so going an extra 4 or 5 years to medical school. I like knowledge, my whole family likes knowledge, so I think I got that trait from them, so Ii just want to learn and help people out,” Small said.
He's number one is his class, and says it took a lot of diligence to achieve his perfect grades.
“Do not procrastinate. If you get an assignment, get it done before you go home and watch TV. You really have to manage your time well,” Small said.
