OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Nine Wapello County workers will get an extra day off this month.

The Iowa Supreme Court has ordered all state court offices closed on Feb. 16 to save money during tough budget times.

Court officials say the day of unpaid leave will affect about 1,600 employees and save more than $335,000.

KTVO talked to the Wapello County Clerk of Court, Deb Littlejohn, to see how the furlough will affect the local office.

"We won't be able to do anything that day because we will be closed, nobody can come in and fill any paper work, so there shouldn't be any backlog from that day to the next as far as new filings," Littlejohn said.

If lawmakers follow through with Governor Culver's proposed 1.5 percent spending cut in the current fiscal year, officials will close the court system for an additional four days.
