GREEN CITY, MO. -- Green City senior Matt Tietjens is not only taking a tough class load, but he still finds time for varsity sports, jazz and concert band, and Science Olympiad.
“This year I'm takin pretty easy classes. I took college English and college algebra. And everything else is pretty easy,” said Matt.
Principal Mike Rennells had nothing but praise for Matt.
Matt's an outstanding student. (He) scored in the top one percent for college admissions test. He's very strong in every content. I think more in his academics though; he's just a great person. Anytime you see him in the halls he's smiling. He's a positive addition to our climate here,” said Rennells.
Band teacher Glenn Palmer has a simple - yet precise way to describe Matt.
“He's just super smart. When he was in elementary school, he skipped the sixth grade, he was 99 percentile or higher his whole life from the time he was in kindergarten,” said Palmer.
“He's not only a great student but he's a great teammate to have,” Rennells added.
And although phy-sed is his favorite class, he understands science the best. That has encouraged him to pursue a scientific major in college. He plans to attend either MU or Nebraska and major in pre-med or chemical engineering.
Teachers agree Matt will have no problem succeeding in life.
“Definitely we'll miss what he brings to the table and hopefully we'll keep being able to have kids of this magnitude,” said Palmer.
