OTTUMWA, IOWA -- As prices continue to rise on everything from groceries to gasoline, many are making cuts elsewhere in the budget.

In fact, our Fact-Finder team has learned that some schools across the country are considering cutting their five day work week to a four day work week to save on cash.

In the Heartland, Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa has been working on a four day week schedule since the early 80s.

According to current college president, Jim Lindenmayer, that's when an energy crisis and high fuel prices forced school officials to cut back.

Now that four day week is resurfacing as a popular idea for many schools.

“I don't know if they're going to follow through on it. I know that a number of schools are looking at it and we've had calls from all over the country," Lindenmayer said.

Lindenmayer also said that the short week saves money for 90 percent of their students who commute to campus.

As far as overall savings from IHCC, he tells KTVO that they save the most on their electricity bill because on Friday, 80 percent of the facility goes unused.
