FLORIS, IOWA -- A Floris, Iowa man finds a buried treasure in his own back yard.

Over time, Art Cochell heard rumor that the man who previously owned his home used to shove coins down a clothing line pole.

That rumor proved to be true after the Floris man found nearly $400 worth of antique coins in his back yard this week.

The pole doesn't exist any more but a portion of it is still buried in the ground, and that's where Cochell found the coins after living at the residence for about five years.

"Me and a buddy of mine go out metal detecting quite a bit and it's just, we always dream of finding a piece of history like this and to have it in your own back yard," Cochell said.

He also said that some of the rare coins are mercury dimes and walking liberty half dollars.

Cochell eventually plans to give his new riches to his nine grandchildren.
