OTTUMWA, IOWA -- An Easter tradition came to life in Ottumwa on Friday.
Community church members strapped on their hiking shoes to understand what Jesus went through before he died on the cross.
The group walked close to a mile across Ottumwa carrying a wooden cross as part of a Good Friday Re-enactment. Participants stopped at 14 different stations throughout their walk where they listened to stories about the trip Jesus took to Calvary.
"I hope it will be a much more moving and personal experience to them. We're worshiping with all of our senses today. With the not only seeing that, but we're able to feel the cross as it passes through our hands. So I think it will be a lot more personal to them," said Salvation Army Capt. Jamie Pennington
Members from many different denominations joined the march across town in preparation for Easter Sunday.
