MACON, MO -- Police urge you to keep your eye on your debit and credit cards.
Last week the Macon Police Department received reports from about 40 people of unauthorized transactions on their cards from amounts anywhere from $4 -$2,500.
Police are worried that there could be more victims out there.
"I do believe the number of victims will go up," said Macon Police Department Chief Steve Olinger. "I know there has been some reports that haven't been made yet. I do think that the number will be raised considerably."
On Tuesday Kirksville Police announced that they have been experiencing some similar events.
The police urge you to pay close attention and monitor your accounts.
The investigation is still ongoing to see if there is a connection or pattern.
"Right now we are still looking into this and develop a pattern to see where this will lead to. We are going to have to follow all the leads that come in about this widespread situation and come up with a quick resolution to this problem," Olinger said.
If you may have fallen victim to this scam or have any information, you are urged to call your local law enforcement.
