KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Literally a face-lift is on the way for the shopping center on South Baltimore Street in Kirksville.

At its most-recent meeting, the Kirksville City Council  unanimously approved the facade design for businesses in the South 63 Corridor TIF (Tax Increment Financing) District, which includes Sears, JC Penney, Glik's and Goody's.

The latest design proposal is actually “Plan B" for the shopping center.

Kirksville Assistant City Manager Melanie Smith explained why changes had to be made to the first set of design plans.

"The TIF revenues have not been what they were projected to be…, and so they've had to kind of scale back their design and submitted a more streamlined, simplified design for the facades of all those buildings. (It is) still a nice design, just a little bit pared down and different than the original concept."

Smith told KTVO what the new store fronts will look like.

"It will be stucco surfacing for all of the buildings so it will give it a nice, consistent look across… the shopping center and will really give it a cleaned-up appearance."

Smith said the developer is currently working on estimates.

Once those are done, and the project is determined to be feasible, they will then advertise for bids.
