FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- After filing for bankruptcy in June, the future of a Fairfield company will be determined by an auction next month.

Harper Brush was given until December to find a buyer for the company, or else they would be forced to close its doors, eliminating 70 local jobs along with it.

Ownership of the company will go up for bid on November 19. A $2.2 million bid was already offered from a Florida-based company, but after all the bids are received, a bankruptcy judge will make the final call on which packaged offer will be best for the company.

"They do anticipate that there will be other bids and again the judge will review them not just based on price, but also what the total package looks like," said Ed Malloy, Mayor of Fairfield. "Hopefully that also means retaining jobs and retaining operations here in Fairfield."

Malloy said that as of now, around five different bidders are interested in Harper Brush.
