Friday, May 13, 2011  Want to join your local school board in the state of Missouri? The guidelines are simple. You must be a registered citizen of that school district, must be 21 or older , and sign up to run. If you qualify under these 3 guidelines, then you are eligible to run for the local school board. An interesting note, you do not have to be a teacher or school official to run. If you are elected onto the school board for the first time, you must attend training that is mandatory by the state of Missouri. Kirksville School Board President, Larry Logston explains what one must go through during that training. "The Missouri State School Act requites that all new school board members should receive 16 hours of training. Training is put on for organizations across the state, some of the things you learn about are school finance, how to govern meetings and school policies," Logston said. The Missouri School Board Association is a non-profit organization founded in 1958 by Missouri school board members to provide help in public school governance. "School is for learning. School boards succeed when they govern districts in which every student is learning, in every subject, every year, no matter what."
