It's been almost a week since one of the worst snow storms to hit the heartland since 1973 and the numbers on the cost of cleaning up that snow are rolling in.
Kirksville public works director John Buckwalter said the storm didn't hit the chemical budget, but the real hit came in regards to overtime.
Kirksville crews are allotted roughly 850 hours a year for snow removal.
The city used about 240 hours in the month of January.
Buckwalter said the city did an overall good job, but there is much to learn for future storms.
"We are going to have to go back and reevaluate the emergency routes, those were updated a few years ago, but because of the way the city has developed, the way the school bus routes run, the way people get to various places now. We need to make sure an alternative route isn't cut off. We've got to take a good look at what we consider emergency routes" said Buckwalter.
Crews will continue to work on secondary roads throughout the city in attempts to open all roads both directions.
